Fulton County retirees who retired under plans created prior to 1982
Fulton County retirees who retired under plans created prior to 1982 will see an increase starting with the April 1, 2020 checks.
At its March 4, 2020 meeting, the Board of Commissioners approved a 2020 Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) that is the greater of 3% or $10 per month. This applies to pre-1982 retirees and beneficiaries who receive pension payments from these sources:
Fulton County General Employees' Pension Fund
Fulton County Judges' and Solicitors' General Retirement Fund
Public Safety Fund
County-Paid Pensions (paid directly from the County)
Those pension plans do not have an automatic COLA provision like the Fulton County Employee Retirement System's (FCERS) 1982, 1991 and 1991 Enhanced plans. The provision allows for a 3% increase every year the Consumer Price Index is above zero. The 1982-1991 plan retirees began receiving their 2020 COLA increase in January.
Brothers and sisters, I wanted to update you on two milestones in the history of the Fraternal Order of Police that occurred Wednesday, January 22, 2020.

The newly formed DART committee has tirelessly searched for a “NASCAR” style 53’ Semi trailer to convert to a mobile kitchen for a National FOP Disaster Response. This search has faced many budget challenges. A new trailer can easily run into the half a million-dollar range. After reviewing a few dozen potential trailers around the country we purchased a trailer that is currently being used by the GEICO Flying team. We are in the process of finalizing the purchase of this trailer for $65,000, (truck not included) The trailer will be moved next week to Louisiana where an industrial fabrication company who operates a trade school has graciously offered to retrofit the trailer into a mobile kitchen and rebrand the trailer with FOP and sponsor logos. The trailer will be transported to disasters by UPS, one of our corporate partner. Five months ago this mission was a dream and it is quickly becoming a reality thanks to DART Chairman Jason Smith and the members of the DART Committee. This purchase is 100% funded with sponsorships from corporate partners. More information to come.
